Description

In 1940, five employees of the Capital Transit Company in Washington, DC, founded what would become Transit Employees Federal Credit Union (TEFCU). From humble beginnings with 37 shares at $5.00 each, TEFCU's cooperative philosophy flourished. In 2006, TEFCU became an independent entity, and in 2008, it expanded its reach through a merger with Railway Employees Federal Credit Union (REFCU), later adding Amtrak to its field of membership. In 2011, TEFCU merged with Hospitality Community Federal Credit Union (HCFCU), broadening its community-focused service. Today, TEFCU continues its legacy, reaching out to local businesses and employee groups to share the credit union philosophy and be the preferred choice for members seeking competitive rates and personalized financial services.
