Description

The Center for Justice Innovation, formerly known as the Center for Court Innovation, plays a crucial role in all aspects of the justice system, spanning from the initial stages of arrest through to the reintegration of individuals into their communities. However, our mission extends beyond this by actively working to diminish the need for involvement in the justice system from the outset. Our primary, long-term objective is to identify and resolve challenges at their earliest stages, thereby preventing individuals from becoming entangled in the criminal and civil legal systems. We pursue this goal through various means, such as channeling resources into underserved communities, engaging in collaborative problem-solving with those affected by crime, and creating programs that address offending while promoting safety without causing lasting harm to individuals or communities.

As an organization deeply involved with both systems and communities, we hold a unique position in bridging the gap between them, cultivating communication, understanding, and trust. Our approach involves close collaboration among our three principal teams: research and evaluation, direct-service programming, and training and expert assistance. Research informs our programming, programming informs our research, and the combined knowledge from research and practice guides our efforts to train and support communities across the United States and internationally in adopting customized reforms.
