Introduction to African American Genealogy Research
November 21, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
This event is exclusively available online. Between 1565 and 1790, Africans represented more than one-third of the approximately one million individuals who arrived in the region that would later become the United States. Virtually all of these nearly 360,000 people undertook this journey in servitude. Over the centuries, a multitude of local and federal laws concerning the well-being of Black Americans have given rise to a complex documentation of genealogical resources. The objective of this class is to offer an introductory historical backdrop and suggest fundamental research techniques for those exploring the history of African American families.
