The Organization of Afro-American Unity (OAAU) was a Pan-Africanist organization founded in 1964 by Malcolm X, modeled on the Organization of African Unity. It sought to unite people of African descent in the Americas with those on the continent, advancing human rights, self-determination, and independent Black political and economic power. Though short-lived after Malcolm X’s assassination, it remains a landmark of Black internationalist thought.
