Headquartered in New York City, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF) is America’s premier civil rights law organization. Founded in 1940 by Thurgood Marshall, it pursues racial justice through litigation, advocacy, and public education in areas including education equity, voting rights, criminal justice, and economic opportunity. LDF has operated as a fully separate organization from the NAACP since 1957.
