Founded by Bryan Stevenson and based in Montgomery, Alabama, the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) provides legal representation to people who have been wrongly convicted or unfairly sentenced, challenges mass incarceration and the death penalty, and confronts the legacy of slavery and racial terror through public education — including the National Memorial for Peace and Justice and the Legacy Museum.
