Founded in 1915 by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) is the premier organization dedicated to researching, preserving, and disseminating information about Black life, history, and culture. It established Negro History Week — now Black History Month — and continues to set its annual national theme.
